Currently holding the positions of CEO and chair of PepsiCo, Indra Nooyi is an American corporate executive of Indian descent.


On October 28, 1955, in Madras (now Chennai), Tamil Nadu, India, she was born as Indra Krishnamurthy into a traditional middle-class family.

In Madras, she went to Holy Angels Anglo Indian Higher Secondary School. She continued on to graduate from Madras Christian College in 1974 with a bachelor's degree in maths, chemistry, and physics.

She gained admission to the highly esteemed Indian Institute of Management in Calcutta, the capital of West Bengal today known as Kolkata, thanks to her tenacity and dedication, and she graduated in 1976 with a Post Graduate Diploma in Management.. 

Her first employment was with the British textile manufacturer Tootal, which had a major presence in India. She eventually went on to become a product manager at Johnson & Johnson.She made the decision to continue her study. In 1978, she relocated to the US to enrol at Yale School of Management, where she studied public and private management for her master's degree. Having had an excellent education at Yale, she graduated in 1980..

She began her professional career at The Boston Consulting Group (BCG), then went on to work as a vice president and director of corporate strategy and planning for organisations like Motorola. She joined Pepsi Co. in 1994 after serving as a member of the top management group overseeing the US operations of Asea Brown Boveri, an industrial corporation with its headquarters in Zurich, for four years.

With her family, Indra Nooyi resides in Greenwich, Connecticut, USA. She has two daughters and is married to Raj Nooyi, an Indian management consultant. 

From 2006 to 2010, Fortune magazine recognised Indra Nooyi No. 1 on its annual ranking of Most Powerful Women in Business. She has continuously ranked on Forbes magazine's list of The World's 100 Most Powerful Women.
